1,000 Liters, One Truck, One Dream: Delivering a Complete Electric Brewhouse to Kazakhstan

Author: Henry Chen     Publish Time: 2026-07-08      Origin: Cassman

Every brewery project has a defining moment — the day the equipment arrives and a brewer's vision becomes something you can walk around, touch, and eventually taste.

For one of our customers in Kazakhstan, that moment came when a fully loaded truck pulled up to his brewery site, carrying a complete 1000L electric brewhouse system — built, tested, and packed in our factory in Jinan, China, and delivered overland across Central Asia.

This is that story.

The Customer: A Serious Brewer Ready to Go Commercial

It was in 2025 when we first connected with this customer in Kazakhstan. He wasn't new to brewing — he understood the craft, he understood his market, and he had a clear production target in mind. What he needed was a manufacturer he could trust to deliver a complete, professional system that would perform reliably from day one.

Kazakhstan's craft beer market has been growing steadily, driven by a younger urban consumer base with rising expectations for quality local beer. He saw the opportunity. He just needed the right equipment to seize it.

After researching suppliers across China and Europe, he reached out to Jinan Cassman Machinery Co., Ltd.

What followed was a detailed, collaborative process — not a simple catalog order.

Understanding the Requirements: More Than Just a Spec Sheet

From the first conversation, it was clear this customer had done his homework. He came with specific questions:

  • Could the system handle back-to-back brewing without overheating or power issues?

  • Was HERMS (Heat Exchange Recirculating Mash System) available for precise mash temperature control?

  • How would the equipment be shipped to Kazakhstan — sea freight wasn't practical for his location and timeline

  • What certifications did the equipment carry, and would it clear customs without issues?

  • What kind of after-sales support could he expect once the equipment was installed?

These are exactly the right questions. And we had clear answers for every one of them.

The Solution: Cassman 1000L Electric Brewhouse System (CM-1000L)

After finalizing the layout design and confirming his site's electrical capacity, we configured the following complete system:

3-Vessel Electric Brewhouse — The Core of the Operation

The CM-1000L is built around a professional 3-vessel configuration — no compromises, no shortcuts.

Mash/Lauter Tun

  • Fully insulated vessel to retain heat during mashing

  • VFD-controlled motor with rake system for efficient lautering

  • Precision-milled false bottom for clean wort separation

  • Sight glass for real-time monitoring

Kettle/Whirlpool Tun

  • Insulated construction for energy efficiency

  • Tangential inlet for effective whirlpool separation

  • Vorlauf port for wort recirculation before transfer

2000L Hot Liquor Tank (HLT)

  • Oversized at 2000L to support back-to-back brewing sessions

  • Insulated to maintain strike water temperature

  • Multiple heating element groups with staged control

Intelligent Electric Heating — 60–72KW, Staged Group Control

At 1000L scale, managing electrical load is critical. Our system uses multiple groups of heating elements in the kettle and HLT, allowing the brewer to activate them in stages — preventing power spikes while maintaining efficient, vigorous heating throughout the brew day.

This is not a simple on/off system. It's engineered power management.

HERMS Integration — Precision Mash Control

For this customer, we integrated the HERMS option — a dedicated stainless steel coil running through the hot liquor pipeline. This creates a gentle, indirect heat exchange loop that allows mash temperature to be held and adjusted with exceptional accuracy.

The result: consistent mash temperature profiles, batch after batch, regardless of ambient temperature fluctuations — important in Kazakhstan's climate, where seasonal temperature swings are significant.

Centralized PLC/PID Control Panel

The entire brewhouse is managed through a centralized PLC/PID control panel — the brain of the operation. Pumps, motors, heating elements, and temperature sensors are all monitored and controlled from a single interface.

  • Repeatable brew days with saved recipe parameters

  • Reduced reliance on manual monitoring

  • Clear, operator-friendly interface

The Logistics Challenge: Getting 1000L of Equipment to Kazakhstan by Truck

This is where many suppliers fall short. Building good equipment is one thing. Getting it safely to a landlocked Central Asian country is another.

Kazakhstan doesn't have direct sea port access. For our customer, truck freight from China was the most practical and time-efficient solution — but it required careful planning.

Here's how we handled it:

Packaging for Road Transport

Unlike sea freight, truck delivery means the equipment faces continuous vibration, road bumps, and multiple handling points at border crossings. We reinforced the export packaging accordingly:

  • Heavy-duty wooden crating with internal foam cushioning

  • Steel banding on all crates

  • Moisture-barrier wrapping on all polished surfaces

  • Clear labeling in both English and Russian for customs handling

Documentation for Kazakhstan Customs

We prepared a complete export documentation package — commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and CE/ISO certification copies — to ensure smooth customs clearance at the Kazakhstan border.

Voltage Configuration

Kazakhstan operates on 380V/3ph/50Hz — which matches our standard configuration for this system. No electrical adaptation was needed, simplifying installation on-site.

Why Electric — and Why It Works at 1000L Scale

One question we hear often: "Is electric heating really viable at 1000L? Isn't steam better at that scale?"

It's a fair question. Here's the honest answer.

For breweries in the 1 BBL to 20 BBL range — which includes 1000L systems — electric heating sits in what we call the "sweet spot." The reasons are practical:

  • No steam boiler room required — saving significant construction and permitting costs

  • No gas lines or exhaust flues — simpler installation, especially in urban or industrial buildings

  • PID temperature precision within 0.1°C — critical for complex mash schedules

  • Near 100% energy transfer efficiency — electric elements heat the liquid directly, not the surrounding air

  • Lower upfront infrastructure cost — especially relevant in markets like Kazakhstan where industrial gas infrastructure may not be readily available at a new brewery site

For this customer, the decision was clear. Electric was the right choice — and our staged group control system at 60–72KW ensures the power load is manageable even without industrial-grade electrical infrastructure.

The Outcome: Equipment Delivered, Brewery Ready to Brew

The truck arrived. The crates were unloaded. The equipment was installed.

And then — the first brew.

We stayed in contact throughout the installation process, providing remote technical support and answering every question that came up on-site. That's not a bonus service at Cassman. It's standard.

The customer now has a fully operational 1000L commercial brewery — capable of producing consistent, high-quality craft beer for the Kazakhstan market, with a system built to run reliably for years.

What This Case Means for Brewers Considering a Similar Move

If you're planning a 1000L commercial brewery — in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, or anywhere else — here are the key takeaways from this project:

1. Electric heating at 1000L is a proven, professional choice.

Don't let anyone tell you electric is only for small home systems. With staged group control and HERMS integration, a 1000L electric brewhouse performs at a genuinely commercial level.

2. Truck freight to landlocked countries is entirely manageable — with the right packaging.

The key is a supplier who understands export logistics, not just manufacturing. Proper crating, correct documentation, and voltage matching make the difference between a smooth delivery and a customs nightmare.

3. A 3-vessel system with a 2000L HLT enables double-batch brewing days.

The oversized HLT means you can prepare strike water for a second batch while the first is still in the fermenter — maximizing your brewhouse utilization without adding equipment.

4. PLC control pays for itself in consistency.

In a market where craft beer quality is still establishing its reputation, the ability to brew the same beer the same way every single time is a genuine competitive advantage.

5. Certifications matter — even in non-EU markets.

CE, ISO, and TUV certification signals quality to your local customers, investors, and regulators — and makes future equipment upgrades or exports significantly easier to manage.
